Re: Across the Stars: Imperial Immunity

See part 1 on the previous page for the beginning, this is part 2 emoticon

*****

It took her longer than she expected to move through the ship. She hit a few dead ends, and had to double back. Eventually she saw a grate ahead of her. She expected it to be the bridge. She moved closer and could hear yelling. Then she heard the sound she dreaded. Gunfire.

She dropped to the floor of the duct and bit her lip. She struggled to focus. She felt panic begin to creep in, but she fought it with everything she had. She closed her eyes and moved forward. Her hands were shaking and her knees felt weak. She was sure that she was going to pass out at any moment, but she knew she needed to see what was happening.

She got to the end and looked out. She saw her friends taking cover behind some consoles against the wall opposite her and there were troops flooding into the room from the door next to where she was. She closed off her ears as best as she could and concentrated on closing the door. She used the stay from her dress to pry away the side of the duct and found the mechanism for the door. She smiled and started rewiring things. She was more confident in this, because auxiliary power kept this part of the ship well lit and with power.

She managed to get the door shut, cutting off further reinforcements, but she must have made some kind of noise because she saw a trooper turn his back on the fight and look into the duct she was in. She tried to remain still, but she saw him cock his head to the side. He tapped another trooper on the shoulder and they both looked in the duct.

She started to move back down the duct, but got caught in her own dress, as the troopers managed to pry the grate off and drag her out.

They pulled her up and held her hands behind her back. She was still shaking. If they hadn’t been holding her up her knees would have given out she was shaking so badly. They kept her behind cover for a moment. Guns were still going off randomly. Then the trooper stood up, his gun to her head.

Skittles tried to focus on something other than the gun, she heard Rand speak up, “Hold fire.”

“What do we have here?” A man in an imperial uniform moved in behind her and replaced the storm trooper. The trooper moved to the side, but his gun never left her. She could feel the officer’s hands on her. He straightened her dress and pulled her hair back. “A little mouse.” She could feel him running his hands through her hair. “We don’t like mice on our ship little girl.”

She looked towards where her friends were crouching. She spotted Rand and Turak right away. She could hear Turak growl low in his throat. Rand made eye contact and tried to reassure her with a smile. Griss and Kreetos were under better cover, but she found them too. She didn’t see Yoric anywhere. He was supposed to be with them on the bridge.

She closed her eyes and ignored the officer. She could hear Kreetos and the officer talking. She ignored them. She was trying to keep it together, but the gun held to her temple was making it hard. She looked to her right, away from the gun, and spotted Yoric. He was on the ground leaning against a wall. His head was bleeding and he wasn’t moving. She felt hot tears flow down her face. Her friend was dead. The man that had helped them, and been so nice to her, was dead. It was too much. A switch in her hear turned off everything else that was going on.

Before anybody knew what she was doing she twisted out of the Imperials grasp and ran to Yoric’s body. Unaware, or unconcerned about the consequences. Taking everyone in the room by surprise.

"Let her go," the Imperial commander ordered as Skittles wriggled free and ran to Yoric. "She won't be going anywhere." He turned his attention to the rebels and raised his voice. "Surrender, rebel scum! You're cornered on a bridge of a thousand Imperials."

"Only if you ask nicely!" Griss yelled back before Kreetos responded.

"Please surrender," the commander responded sarcastically, "Or we'll seal the deck and open the airlocks."

"He makes a convincing argument," Rand murmured as he fingered his blaster anxiously. "We wouldn't last long after they blow the vents."

"We'll blow the bridge before we die!" Griss yelled. "Those idiots wouldn't risk their precious control center," he said to Kreetos.

"That's fine," the Imperial commander responded calmly. "You do that."

"Ah..." Griss sighed. "Smug bastard."

"I suspect they have an auxiliary bridge," Kreetos replied with a grimace. "They have likely also activated a distress signal. It's only a matter of time before another Imp ship picks up on it and arrives. We need to stall though, to think of something."

"If you open the airlocks, we'll crash this ship into the nearest star!" Griss yelled.

"The hyperdrive is down," the commander responded. "Any other bright ideas?" He asked mockingly.

~

Yoric's eyes stirred beneath shut lids. His ears rang with the aftereffects of the stunbolt, but he could distinctly make out that people were yelling at each other. He reached up to touch his throbbing temples, but countered soft, plush resistance instead. His hand groped around a minute before he opened an eye to investigate exactly what was going on that would place such a soft object in his lap.

"Ah," he said simply as Skittle's form came into focus. She had her head on his chest, listening for a heartbeat. He noted her incredibly red face and furrowed his brow; then reality set in. "I didn't know you were quite so curvy on the aft end," the pirate murmured as he looked past her to the situation at hand. The Imperials stood behind several makeshift barricades by the door, while the rebels were crouched behind various consoles and computers at the front of the bridge. The Imperial commander and what sounded like Griss were shouting back and forth at each other; the commander looked very amused while Yoric suspected Griss was going quite mad.

"You're ali-" Skittles started to exclaim despite her clear embarrassment before Yoric clamped his free hand on her mouth.

"Shh my dear," the pirate whispered. "Lest the element of surprise be lost."

"What?" she asked as Yoric reached down and unclipped his blaster. He lifted it slowly and took careful aim towards the Imperials. "What are yo-"

With returning clarity and a trained eye, Yoric targeted one of the stormtroopers and fired. At the same time he pushed off the wall and rolled, with Skittles in tow, behind a computer console. The laser whisked past three soldiers before it exploded into the back of the targeted soldier, igniting the thermal detonator that all soldiers carried on the back of their armor. While a normal blaster bolt would not normally destroy the device, Yoric's modified heavy blaster shredded through the device. The trooper, and everything within 5 meters of him, suddenly exploded in a brilliant flash of light. The commander and his soldiers fell back in surprise as the explosion ripped through their forces.

"Go!" Kreetos yelled. He vaulted over his makeshift cover and opened fire into the Imperial ranks. Griss and Rand followed immediately, and the other rebels quickly seized the sudden advantage. Red and green laserbolts crisscrossed the bridge again as Stormtroopers desperately tried to find better cover.

In the chaos, Yoric poked his head up over his console and grinned. He aimed his blaster and fired into the crowd of Imperials, scoring a direct hit on the commander. Another officer, a lieutenant by his markings, shouted the order to fall back and seal the bridge. The stormtroopers obeyed, laying down a wild field of fire as they moved out of the bridge to prevent pursuit. As the last of the soldiers exited, the bridge doors sealed shut from the outside.

Yoric knelt down beside Skittles and gave her a gentle shake. She had fallen into another 'battle coma', dazed by the sudden explosions and lasers.

"Hey kid," he said, "Snap out of it. We need you to override the command codes so they don't send us into deep space. You think you can do that?"

"M-maybe," she stammered as the world refocused in her glassy eyes. "I think I c-can."

"Good!" The pirate said and kissed her on the cheek with a laugh. "Get to it then!" He stood up suddenly and waved his hat towards Kreetos. "Fishy! I saved the day!"

"You could have killed us you idiot!" Kreetos yelled, waving his blaster threateningly at Yoric. "Whose side are you on anyway?!"

"Yours of course!" Yoric said, walking around the computer console as Skittles went to work. He moved towards Kreetos with hands up, showing off his own blaster. "Was there ever any doubt?"

"Well there was that whole shooting at us thing in the sewers," Rand responded blandly.

"Not to mention the whole interrogation thing," Griss added.

"And generally being shifty," Rand continued.

"Besides that!" Yoric said with a flamboyant bow. "I got you on board the imperial ship that carries the poisons! It has all the locations of the manufacturing and deployment sites within its database!"

"We're about to get sucked out of th-"

"Done!" Skittles declared, then blushed suddenly from her own exuberance. "I er, I locked the airlocks so they can't be removed, even manually. Um...I'll get the doors unlocked."

"See!" Yoric grinned. "All according to plan!"

"Only someone as insane as you would have plan like this," Kreetos snapped. "Does your plan include anything after this?"

Yoric paused to strike a thoughtful pose. "I suppose we should alter that distress beacon to rebel frequencies and put the ship on lockdown. We should probably download that database too. No telling what those pesky imps will do once they figure out we've locked them out of the systems."

"Fine," Kreetos sighed. He turned to the other rebels and began ordering them to hack into the consoles and find any relevant information. He paused when he arrived at Griss and Rand. "You two, ah...strip the stormtrooper bodies of their weapons." He continued with a whisper, "And keep an eye on the pirate."

~

"So how 'bout those coordinates?" Yoric said as he leaned over the opposite side of Skittle's console.

"They're in here somewhere," Skittles said, oblivious to who she was talking too. She was completely absorbed in the world of cyberspace and electronics, surfing the Imperial data streams.

"Yes, yes they are," Yoric said. He drummed his fingers on the console for a moment, then turned away with a shrug. She'd find them soon enough.

"Found it!" Skittles yelled, then looked around sheepishly. "The um...the coordinates for the manufacturing facilities. It doesn't list the other ships that might be carrying the poison though, or anything like that."

Yoric spun around on his heel and grinned. "Excellent! Where are we headed then?"

"It loks like most of their facilities are scattered across really remote systems and moons. It only lists four other places besides Nar Shadaa."

"Hey Fishy! Time to pick a system!" Yoric yelled. "We're going across the stars again!

A. The rebels alter the distress signal to summon reinforcements to seize the Imperial ship

B. The rebels activate the distress signal and move to secure the ship on their own with force and the computers

A. The rebels alter the distress signal to summon reinforcements to seize the Imperial ship

Rand had picked up two blaster rifles and a couple more grenades after stripping the the Stormtroopers of their weapons. Some might see the act of stripping bodies of the dead kind of morbid but as far as Rand was concerned it was better them then him. As he did so Kreetos and the others had gotten the distress single out to the other rebels. Skittles had taken control of the ships computer systems leaving most of the ship under their control, but they were still stuck.

"We should really do something about all those imps out there," Rand walked towards Kreetos with a Blaster rifle in each hand and a pistol tucked into his belt.

"Open the doors to the forward docking bay," Kreetos ordered. "That will give our friends a way in. Lets seal off parts of the ship as well that will keep some of the Stormrtroopers out our hair, so to speak."

"Can do," Skittles went to work at the control panel

"We should do something about that auxiliary bridge," Rand looked down at the lay out of the ship. "They may try and retake control from there."

"We should also try and meet our friends," Griss commented from over by Yoric.

"An assault on the auxiliary Bridge isn't something we can do at our current state. We need more men," Kreetos looked at the layout as well.

"If we take out this relay we should be able to cut power to the auxiliary bridge and its on the way to the docking bay so we could meet up with any rebels who answer the call."

A. Kreetos sends a couple rebels to take out the relay and then meet the new comers.

B. No one is sent to take out the relay

C. the team sent to take out the relay run into more Stormtroopers

A. Kreetos sends a couple rebels to take out the relay and then meet the new comers.

Bartal Kreetos rubbed his chin with his blue toned right hand as he looked at the layout of the ship that was in front of Rand. “I agree. While we don’t have enough man power at this time for an all out assault on the auxiliary bridge, we can’t allow them any leverage over us. Skittles sent out the distress call a little while ago and it will take any alliance ships in the sector some time before they can rendezvous with us,” the lt. commented.

Griss looked over at Rand, “I’m in. Let’s go take out that relay.”

Kreetos nodded as the two rebel soldiers began assembling a squad. Suddenly proximity alerts began sounding on the bridge. Outside the front viewer, The Defiant could be seen exiting from hyperspace in front of them.

“Skittles, can you open a channel to the The Defiant?” Kreetos asked.

“I’ve already hacked into the communications array so it shouldn’t be a problem,” came the demure voice of Skittles sounded. Her fingers then began working on the panel in front of her. “I got it,” she exclaimed and nodded toward the Mon Calamari lieutenant.

“Defiant, this is Lt. Bartal Kreetos of the Alliance. We have taken control of this vessel and gained vital information about the Empire’s chemical weapon,” the blue skinned Mon Calamari said into the comm. unit.

After a few second delay a male voice came through the comm. unit, “Kreetos, it is certainly good to hear your voice. When we heard of the raid on the cell on Nar Shaddaa we feared the worst.”

“Captain Thassul, much has happened since last we spoke including our capture of which I will debrief you fully in my report when this is over. However, we are in control of this ship for the time being although the Imperials are doing their best to regain control. A squadron of alliance soldiers is on their way to take out a relay which powers the auxiliary bridge which is under Imperial control. If you could dock with our ship and send in reinforcements to help us take full control of this ship. We have a plan thanks to the information Private Sperinor has recovered about the toxin,” Kreetos answered.

“Acknowledged Lt., we will begin docking now,” Captain Jorn Thassul replied.

“So fishy,” Yoric said as he walked up alongside the Mon Calamari, “What is this plan that you speak of.”

Kreetos grinned, “Well Pirate you said I should choose a system and choose a system I have!”

Yoric crossed his arms over his chest and then switched his eye patch from his left eye to his right and then squinted his left eye toward the lieutenant, “Care to share this system with the rest of us?”

“Well seeing as how you are always calling me fishy, I chose the planet that would be most comfortable for me . . . Ando,” Kreetos said with another grin causing Yoric to raise his left eyebrow.

“Well fishy you never cease to amaze me. While I can see how a planet comprised of almost all water would be like going home to you, you do realize that there is a rather large Imperial garrison on Ando,” Yoric replied.

“Yes, that is why we are going to fly in without the Defiant aboard this ship. According to the records Skittles pulled up, this ship was scheduled to pick up a shipment of supplies which are needed to synthesize the compound on Ando. The garrison won’t suspect anything when they see this ship come out of hyperspace. And seeing as we have a supply of stormtrooper armor they won’t be startled to see a squad of stormtroopers show up on their doorstep,” Kreetos answered.

“I see where you are going with this fishy!” Yoric said with a grin.

A. The Imperials onboard the ship mount up a campaign against the rebels
B. An Imperial ship comes out of hyperspace
C. The rebels take full control of the ship

Re: Across the Stars: Imperial Immunity

C. The rebels take full control of the ship

Rand, Griss, Turak, and the rest of the soldiers headed out of the bridge. Skittles followed them on the ship cameras, opening and closing doors between them and the hangar bay. They stopped and Skittles talked them through how to disconnect the power to the auxilary bridge’s relay on the way past. It went smoothly.

She also facilitated the docking with the defiant. Once she was sure that the ship was docked and the rebels were all together she told them to contact her when they were ready to make their assault.

She then turned her attention to more personal matters. She had hacked into the system again and dug deeper. Control of the ship, that was easy. Medical database, since she had been there recently, not much harder. This was as close as she had been to an Imperial computer in a long time.

Yorik and Kreetos, were pouring over maps, charts, and lists. They were in a heated discussion about plans and schemes and tactics. She knew she had time.

She needed to find her parents. They had been taken away in the night by Imperials. She found out they had been taken to do slave labor, but she had no idea where, or even if they were still alive. She had found out previously that they had been given numbers in the computer. Numbers to be recognized by. She was going to crack into the legal area of the computer and starting to dig.

She heard raised voices behind her, but shut them out. This is why she joined the rebels. This was why she put up with the guns and the fighting. She had to find her family, dead or alive. She was nearly there. Closer than she had been in years when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She shook it off and tried to decode the last encryption.

A sense of relief flooded through her as pages and pages of files opened before her fingers. She typed in the number for her father and searched the database, there was a hit. She then searched for her mother’s number. Also a hit. She opened the files and read about her parents. They were still alive. They were being held in an underwater facility on Ando.

Her father had been a chemist, her mother a doctor. It was possible that they were being used to help with the target of their current mission. She couldn’t believe her luck. She had overheard Kreetos say Ando was their destination. She was going to have to convince them to make a side trip and rescue some slaves while they were there. The ship was certainly big enough to house them.

There was a hand on her shoulder again, and she tried to shake it off, but it squeezed tighter. She looked up into Yorik’s eyes. He had a soft, gentle smile on his face, he leaned down and looked at the information she had up on the screen, including the most recent pictures of her parents.

He said softly to her, “Are these your parents little one?”

She nodded, biting her lip. She hadn’t told anybody why she had left her home and joined the rebellion. And with her mad skills they hadn’t cared.

He tightened the grip on her shoulder. “We’ll find them little one. I promise you that.” He kissed the top of her head and she nodded.

He turned around and yelled, “Hey Fishy, funny thing, you picking Ando.” Skittles heard him walk over to where the men were plotting and begin to speak.

Skittles took her datapad out and hooked it up to the computer. She loaded the information on the biowarfare projects, the Ando facilities, and the information about her parents and the other slaves. Once that was done, she stood up and moved over to the planning area. She pulled up the pictures of her parents and set them on the table.

She looked at Kreetos with a resolve they hadn’t seen in their little demure hacker, “While we’re there we’re going to free the slaves and rescue my parents. Figure that into your plans. Here’s everything about the facility and personnel I can find. Figure something out.”

Just then the bridge’s comm blinked. She went back to her station and turned it on. It was Rand, “We’re ready to make the assault on the auxiliary bridge.”

“I’ll follow you on the sensors. Let me know when to open the next door?”

“You got it.”

And she did, she followed them on the sensors and opened the doors as they cleared rooms. It took a while, but they managed to take the auxilary bridge with little resistance. With the power cut to the auxiliary bridge they had to blow the door, and took it quite easily. The remaining Imperials were being rounded up slowly, facilitated by Skittles, and brought to holding cells.

She turned around and grinned once the last room on the ship was checked. “We have complete control of the ship.”

Yorik smiled back, “Well done.”

Kreetos nodded, “And we have a plan to not only take care of the biological weapons being made and distributed on Ando, but a plan to free the slaves and take them with us.”

Skittles jumped out of her chair and ran over to give Kreetos a huge hug. “Thanks LT.”

He looked at the pirate with a confused look, and patted her gently on the back. Yorik just shrugged. Neither one of them had yet figured out women. And likely, neither one ever would.

A. An Imperial ship comes out of hyperspace
B. They head for Ando
C. They receive a distress signal from nearby

See, I CAN do short, I just usually choose not to emoticon.

B. They head for Ando

~~~~~
"Full speed ahead!" Yoric said, pointing out the viewports towards space as the ship began to move in an over dramatic fashion.
"Please tell me that's a one time thing," Kreetos mumbled from the captain's chair was the hyperdrive's hummed to life.
"Only if you promise to drop me off to get my ship!" Yoric replied. "Speaking of ships, this one's a bit crowded. What are we going to do with all the silly imps that we've got? I don't fancy diving into an Imp world with a ship full of Imps who will be feeling particularly impish about being locked up in their own ship."
"I don't think you used that word right," Griss muttered from a navigational computer.
Kreetos rolled his eyes. "It's a fair question, regardless of its presentation."
"Do you rhyme now?" Yoric smirked.
"Do you ever stop?" Kreetos snapped.
"Only with the proper incentive!"
The Mon Cal sighed deeply, rubbing his webbed hand across his forehead. "I sent a communication to the Defiant while I was speaking to the captain. We will be stopping just outside the Ando system, and out of Imperial range, to unload our prisoners onto the Defiant and several other transports. They will give us a minimum crew for this ship and a few slicers to make it look like we had to make a stop to drop off a garrison somewhere. I think ahead, pirate."
"I'm sure you do," Yoric said with a shrug. "We'd better make it quick though! We've got a lot of prisoners and precious little time! I doubt we're the only poison needle in the mad doctor's cabinet that's been set loose upon the populace."
"That didn't make a word of sense," Rand said with a long sigh.
"Does anyone know how long it will take us to get there?" Skittles asked suddenly with a bewildered look.
"A day at the most," Yoric replied. "I bet we have to time it so we arrive with the rebels for maximum efficiency, eh Fishy?"
"Correct," Kreetos replied. "I suggest we all get some rest. But be wary. There are 1000 Imperials on board this ship, and while we've managed to lock them down in various parts and prevent them from accessing the computers, they're crafty."
"I'll be sure to rest easy now that I've been reminded we have an entire regiment of imps here with us," Griss snorted.
"Actually only 200 or so of them are stormies, and we probably killed most of their officers," Yoric grinned. "The rest are engineers, ship officers, and biochemists for the toxins, and whatever else the imps put on board. They shouldn't be too much of a hassle."
"Look, just get some rest and we'll rotate the guard every few hours," Kreetos snapped.
"Can do Fishy!"
~
"Are we there yet?"
"Oh shut up pirate," Griss snapped. "We're 10 minutes away from hitting the drop point. Time doesn't go faster because you keep asking!"
"It does when it pisses you off," Yoric drawled in reply. He leaned back on the arm of the captain's chair and swung his feet over the other arm, letting them dangle lazily. "How are we unloading our friends anyway? We didn't exactly lock them all up, so I hope your comrades aren't expecting them to waltz into their cells, hang their heads and say they've been very bad boys."
"Who knows," Griss shrugged. "The Lt. told me to pilot the ship, not play laser tag with a bunch of stormies."
The two men fell silent as the timer ticked down slowly. As the numbers fell to zero, the hyperdrive shook the ship as it powered down, pulling it out of hyperspace with a jerk. The white star lines vanished suddenly, giving away to the bleak blackness of space. Before the ship sat a small fleet of Rebel transports, and beyond them the Ando system, its large sun burning brightly even from a great distance away.
Griss sighed in relief. "Now we can get rid of those imps."
Rand watched as a cargo frigate pulled up next to the them. The Frigate would be used to unload the captive imperials so they could continue onto Ando
"Head down to over see the transfer," Kreetos stepped up behind Rand.
"Yes sir," Rand turned to salute Kreetos before leaving the bridge. He arrived just in time to see several rebel guards escorting the officers to where the frigate had docked. Keeping a hand on his blaster he watched as the it went on with out any issues.
Once then imperials were off the ship a group of rebels boarded the ship. Pulling out a com from his breast pocket he contacted the Bridge.
"We're all set." Rand led the new crew members towards the upper decks.
"Full speed ahead," Kreetos' voice came through the com.
A. The Rebels arrive with out issues
B. A Star Destroyer arrives
C. The ship is attacked by Pirates
Re: Across the Stars: Imperial Immunity
A. The Rebels arrive without issues
“Lt. we are about to exit hyperspace and enter system,” Griss said.
The Mon Calamari winced slightly, “Ok Pirate are you ready for your star performance?”
Yoric, who had been snoozing slightly in a chair on the far side of the bridge, jumped up slightly startled, “What are you going on about now Fishey?”
Kreetos nodded to Rand who walked over to a small cupboard at the doorway to the bridge and retrieved something. He then walked over to where Yoric and Kreetos were now standing and held up an Imperial officer’s uniform on a clothes hanger.
“And what do you want me to do with this?” the Pirate said with a sneer as he looked the uniform up and down.
Chuckling slightly, Kreetos said, “Well as soon as we exit hyperspace we are going to be contacted by that garrison. I am certainly not suited to be decorated as an Imperial officer and neither is Skittles. That leaves you, Griss, or Rand. And well . . . we all elected you while you were sleeping.”
Yoric raised an eyebrow slightly and was about to say something when Kreetos cut him off, “Besides poor Yoric, I know you all too well. You have shown us several times on this mission that you can be a wonderful actor. Now I’m just giving you center stage!”
The pirate says nothing but takes a hold of the garment and makes his way off of the bridge. The entire bridge went quiet. After a few moments Skittle broke the silence, “Do you think he’s really going to do it?”
“Of course I’ll do it darling!” came the voice of Yoric. “I wouldn’t let you our your parents down.”
Kreetos eyed the pirate up from head to toe. He was wearing the Imperial officer’s uniform and had slicked his hair back under the cap. The pirate had even removed the eye patch completely.
“Wow you actually look like an Imp,” Kreetos said.
“And it’s a good thing too,” Griss said. “We are pulling out of hyperspace now.”
As soon as they reverted from hyperspace the comm. unit beeped. “Ok Yoric, you are on,” Kreetos said.
A. Yoric sells out the Rebels and informs the Imperials of what has transpired
B. Yoric convinces the Imperials that they are there to drop off a shipment
C. An Imperial cruiser drops out of hyperspace and attacks them
