Across the Stars: Imperial Immunity

A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far, Far Away . . .

Star Wars: Across the Stars
Episode II: Imperial Immunity

Two months have passed since the Rebel Alliance base on Hoth was attacked and many lives were lost at the hand of the Empire. Since that time the Alliance has been making efforts to bounce back from the devastating attack.

In an attempt to further crush the rebellion, the Empire has spread their fleet throughout the galaxy to engage any rebel cells that are found. Among those cells is a small group lead by Captain Jorn Thassul who commands a Mon Calamari freighter The Defiant which is currently in Seswenna sector after completing a mission to Sullust.

Rebel alliance leaders have recently received intel about a most dastardly imperial plot. It has been discovered that Imperial agents have tracked down pirates and smugglers who have aided the rebellion. Those that were captured were interrogated by Darth Vader, himself. The prisoners were then offered immunity for their "crimes" if they cooperated with the Empire by smuggling an air-born pathogen that attacks the immune system into all future deliveries to rebel cells. Those that accepted this proposal were freed with a supply of this new chemical warfare agent. Those that refused were terminated . . .

Lt. Bartal Kreetos was in his quarters aboard the Defiant when his comm. unit signaled. "Lt. Kreetos, please report to the briefing room," came the voice of Captain Jorn Thassul. "Acknowledged, on my way," the Mon Calamari answered.

After arriving in the briefing room, Captain Thassul motioned for the Mon Calarami to have a seat at the table. "Lt. Kreetos I have some disturbing news," Thassul started. "Reports are coming in that the Empire is using a new tactic against us--chemical warfare."

"That's not a part of their typical arsenal," Kreetos answered. "I know but this might be the death of the rebellion if this continues," Thassul replied as he handed Bartal a data pad. "They have infiltrated many of our sources of smuggled goods and have added in a chemical agent that weakens the immune system making those who come into contact with it so weak that even the common cold or small cuts can be fatal."

"Have there been any casualties?" Bartal replied. Thassul nodded his head, "An entire rebel cell was killed on Ylesia after receiving an arms shipment that was laced with the chemical. This brings me to your assignment."

The Mon Calamari blinked, "My assignment?"

"Yes, we want you to lead a team to Nar Shaddaa since that is where we believe the chemical originated. The Hutts, while not in league per se with either the rebellion or the Empire are always willing to side with whoever pays them the most. It is believed that Imperial scientists came up with the compound and transported it to Hutt space since most smugglers and pirates, even those that work with us, seem to pass through at one point or another." Thassul paused. "We want you to travel there and find out where they are storing it and destroy their supply. Then find out where else in the galaxy they have sent the chemical, track it down, and destroy it. You have free reign to select any member of the crew for your team."

Thassul pointed out the window, "We have an old friend of yours coming to be your pilot given his history and reputation in that sector."

Kreetos grimaced at the site of the incoming YT-2400, "But how can know he wasn't one of the pirates the Empire coerced into working for them."

Thassul frowned, "We don't, that's the other part of your mission."

Re: Across the Stars: Imperial Immunity

A pair of black boots stomped down the YT-2400's ramp as it powered down in the docking bay. The rebel guards that came to escort the pirate hesitated as he exited his ship, taken aback by his bizarre appearance. Yoric had changed his wardrobe for the special occasion of being invited to the Rebel ship. He had traded his white shirt for a deep red one with a ruff collar. His vest was black with a variety of dagger heads sticking out of the pockets for show. Black leggings with golden trim waved around his legs as he swaggered through the ship. Various pieces of jewelry sparkled in the lights as Yoric passed under them, most notably a guady golden ring embedded with five tiny silver crystals. A rapier bounced against the pirate's thigh in an elaborately decorated scabbard, likely stolen.

"Greetings, oh fishy-one!" Yoric said as he entered the room. He gave a melodramatic bow to Captain Thassul and Kreetos. The large purple feather bobbed up and down as Yoric returned his cap to his head. He had changed little, save for growing a goatee and narrow mustache. His eye patch, decorated with an ancient crossed-bones symbol, sat over his right eye.

Thassul glanced between Kreetos and Yoric for a split second before returning the pirate's greeting with a simple nod. "Welcome to The Defiant, Mr...Yoric. The Alliance thanks you for your swift response to our summons. Have you reviewed the files we sent you?"

"A bit," Yoric responded, looking around the bridge and seeming not to pay attention. "Something about shipping people around somewhere to do things. Ord Mantell, wasn't it?"

Thassul tried to keep his face calm and formal. "Nar Shaddaa. We understand that you have connections there and would be able to land on the planet without trouble."

"Mantell, Shadaa," Yoric shrugged. "They're both messy and smell bad. I can get into both as a matter of fact!" He smirked confidently. "Yes, you want me to take some people into the place for...what was it again? You're investigating some pirates that worked for you I heard. Did they sell some info to the Imps or the Hutts? Sounds like you've got a bit of a leak."

"Indeed," Thassul replied, turning his back to Yoric and picking up a datapad. He handed it to Kreetos with a wary glance towards Yoric. "These detail your mission objectives. You already know the pass codes for the information you require. Now, on to the matter of selecting your team?"

"Exactly how many am I shipping?" Yoric said as he leaned over a navigator's shoulder, watching the blinking lights in apparently fascination.

"That is up to Lt. Kreetos," Thassul replied with a sigh. "We expect you to treat this mission with the utmost delicacy. We wish to avoid the situation we encountered after Hoth."

Yoric chuckled as he stood up to face the two officers. "That was nothing!" He declared with a slight pose. "Not even close to my best work!"

"So we heard," Thassul replied with a deep sigh. "Lt Kreetos, you are free to select your team."

There were only three places Jaylin Rand could be found, the mess hall, his bunk or his fighter. At the moment he was with his fighter, checking over the hull after yet another skirmish with a squadron of Tie fighters. The deck hands had done a good job making the fighter look good. Rounding the nose of the fighter he found one of the captain's aids waiting for him.

"You are requested by Captain Thassul," The young woman replied curtly.

"Very well," Jaylin rubbed his hands on the leggings of his flight suit and followed the woman to a briefing room where Jaylin saw Captain Thassul with Lt. Bartal Kreetos and a rather strange looking fellow.

"Thanks for meeting us, Commander Rand," Thassul waved to an empty chair. "Please join us."

"Commander Rand, we are requesting your assistance on a mission that is going to be lead by Lt. Kreetos here," Captain Thassul said gesturing toward the red skinned Mon Calamari. Thassul then jerked his right thumb toward Yoric, "Captain Yoric will be taking the crew in his ship."

Rand nodded toward Kreetos and the strange looking pirate.

Lt. Bartal Kreetos chimed in, "We are about to take off to visit Nar Shadaa to investigate a threat to the rebel alliance that may be coming from Hutt space." Kreetos paused, "We are only going to be a small crew but the danger and significance of this mission may in fact dictate the fate of this war."

"What do you need me to do?" Rand replied. In response, Kreetos handed him a datapad, "Review the mission objectives and meet us in the north docking bay in 2 standard hours."

A. The men exit the room and reconvene at the appointed time to leave for Nar Shadaa

B. A ISD comes out of hyperspace and begins attacking the ship

C. Yoric interjects before they leave and demands to know more about the mission

A. The men exit the room and reconvene at the appointed time to leave for Nar Shadaa

Yoric attempted to peer over Rand's shoulder as the man briefly crossed in front of him with the datapad. Seeming to lose interest the moment the pilot passed, he turned to Captain Thassul and gave a half bow. "I shall return to my ship and prepare for our departure! Have your crews drop off their supplies and the like and I will direct where they are supposed to go. I want a full list of how many passengers I'm going to have too. The Hutts have been getting picky about just how many people per ship can come in. If it's over the 'limit', you have to pay a fine. Sneaky fellows."

He turned sharply on his polished boot and walked out of the command deck, giving Kreetos a wave of his hand as he left. He swaggered down the halls back to his ship, stomping up the walkway and entering it. "We're going on an adventure lads!"

A groan sounded from the cockpit as a protocol droid emerged with a forlorn expression. "This can only bode ill for us all."

"That's the spirit!" Yoric laughed.

~

"Are we all ready to go then?" Yoric said as he sat at the bottom of the ramp 2 hours later, looking around the crowded docking bay. "Come on then, all aboard. Keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times and make sure not to touch anything. Talk to Eyes, the protocol droid, if you have any questions."

When they had all entered the ship, Yoric entered the cockpit and began the power up sequence. Kreetos walked in after him and began to say something, but the pirate interrupted him.

"What's the crew look like, Mr. Kreetos? Some of them look a bit fishy. I don't trust their kind to hold a lot of water so we'd best not drown them in duties. After all, in a risky mission like this it's sink or swim, and the minnows shouldn't be leading the fray." He grinned impishly as the ship's engines began to hum.

~

A. An ISD comes out of hyperspace just as they take off and attacks both ships

B. The ship takes off and enters hyperspace, but is pulled out of hyperspace by a nearby Interdictor

C. They leave and enter hyperspace without a problem

C. They leave and enter hyperspace without a problem

Jaylin Rand was kind of surprised with how easily the journey had gone. They had not run into any Imperial ships. He was almost ready to think maybe the mission wouldn't be to hard after all.

Looking out the viewscreen Jaylin fought to control the urge to fly, he rarely went anywhere with out being the pilot. He didn't like the notion of not doing anything.

"So thats Nar Shadaa," Jaylin looked out the screen to see a brownish yellow covered planet. "Looks nice."

"Yep," Kreetos replied. "Better not take any deep breaths. Take us in Captain Yoric."

A. The Ship lands smoothly

B. A. An ISD comes out of hyperspace just as they head in

C. The Hutts don't let them land

B. A. An ISD comes out of hyperspace just as they head in

"What is the status?" Lt. Kreetos said to Yoric who was sitting in the pilot's seat of the YT-2400.

"Well my good fish, we are about to head down to docking bay 29," Yoric said as he shifted his eye patch from his left eye to his right as he stared down at the console in front of him. He then looked up, "I told you I could get us down there!"

Bartal blinked his bulbous eyes and then turned to the human standing behind him, "Rand, once we land you and I along with Captain Yoric are going to head to the local cantina under cover and see if we can find any leads."

Rand turned his head slightly, "The cantina?"

"Why yes my good man, cantinas are the best places to find out where the local hive of villainry is! If your little rebellion here wants to find something on Nar Shadaa I know the right spot!" Yoric said with an amused grin on his face.

Their conversation was interrupted by alarms sounding. "What is it?" Kreetos said looking in Yoric's direction. After glancing down at his controls and out the front view port Yoric's eyes bulged a bit, "Well it seems friends of yours decided to come along for the ride?"

Kreetos and Rand looked out the front viewer to see an Imperial Star Destroyer moving in to orbit the planet. "Why haven't they attacked us yet?" Rand said still looking at the massive ship.

"I don't think they followed us," Kreetos said. "I think they are here for the same reason we are except they are here to pick up their purchase and we are trying to stop it."

"I'm . . ." Yoric was almost speechless for the first time. "I'm going to take us down now."

The ship and crew passed through the atmosphere of the Hutt controlled planet without difficulty and Captain Yoric set the ship down smoothly in the assigned docking bay. After settling down the three men made their way to the landing ramp and as they descended standing in front of them was a Noghri.

A. The Noghri attacks them
B. The Noghri begins speaking to them
C. Stormtroopers flood the docking bay

B. The Noghri begins speaking to them.

Naso stepped back a pace as the boarding ramp lowered to the ground. He could feel the apprehension radiating from the three men as they came down the ramp towards him.

"Greetings, I am called Naso. Which of you is Kreetos?" Naso asked with a low voice. Kreetos did not respond immediatley, but stepped past Yoric and replied "Im Kreetos, may I ask how you know that I would be here?" Naso felt a ripple through the force and noticed the strange Pirate slowly moving his hand towards his holster.

"I appologize for the surprise" pausing to look at Yoric "But I was late to the oppointment we all had." said Naso "I was given the new location to meet you, and it seems I have a fast ship" Naso said as he grinned at Yoric again.

Commander Rand surveyed the area making sure knowone was watching the exchange between Lt. Kreetos and the Noghri. "Maybe we should move inside the ship or elsewhere to finish this conversation" Rand said. Lt. Kreetos responded "Captain Thassul mentioned he had called in someone he new, wouldnt tell me who it was at the time." he said looking at Naso "I assume this was you, yes?"

"It was I, yes" replied Naso " I agree with the other gentleman, we should move on now." Yoric was not happy with a new member that he knew nothing about, so he stepped next to Lt. Kreetos as the group began moving away from his ship. "How do you know we can trust this....this little....thing?" Yoric whispered to Kreetos. "IM going to check in with Captain Thassul as soon as we are out of the docking bay, but keep your eye on him tell he checks out."

A. The men walk out of the docking bay headed for the cantina.

B. Yoric doesnt trust Naso and draws his blaster on him.

C. Naso feels someone watching them and stops.

A. The men walk out of the docking bay headed for the cantina.

“Whatever,” Yoric muttered as he turned away from the Nogri. He looked Kreetos up and down, and then whistled back into the ship. His bright pink R2 united rolled down the ramp, carrying a folded cloak. “You look about outlandish my fishy friend,” Yoric said as he picked up the cloak. “No offense, but your people are well known for their sentiments. Hutt Space may be owned by the Hutts, but the Imperials rule the galaxy. You’d better wear this so nobody gives us a second thought,” he held the brown cloak out in his left hand, which was decorated in bright gemmed rings.

Kreetos sighed at the irony and donned the cloak. He turned to Naso and gestured toward the Nogri’s own apparel. “It would be best if we both put on our hoods.” Naso nodded and pulled the cloth over his head.

As the men exited the dockyard, Yoric moved over to Kreetos and in front of the other two rebels. “He’s fishier than you are,” he hissed to the Mon Calamari in quiet tones as they stepped outside. The moon of the Hutt capital, Nar Shaddaa was known as a place of smugglers, thieves, and every imaginable illicit activity one could think of. The city streets of the capitol of the moon were messy and filled with the least savory creatures in the galaxy. Yoric and Kreetos quickly took the lead as the four Rebels moved down the sidewalks, pushing their way through the crowds.

"And that's saying a lot," Yoric continued as they crossed a street towards a particular cantina, The Blue Twi'lek with gaudy signs and provocative imagery plastered all over the dirty walls.

"Why are we going in here?" Rand asked, looking dubiously at the door, guarded by a pair of especially ugly Trandoshans wielding stun batons.

"Because it is where the local informant was supposed to meet us," Kreetos whispered as they moved towards the door, Yoric in the lead. "We enter first, and he will approach us after we order our drinks."

"Greetings lads!" Yoric flashed a smug smirk and walked right past the two trandoshans, waving a bright card as he did so. "They're with me! I'll pay for any damages incurred, as usual!"

The four rebels entered the dark cantina, lit by neon lights and the bar lights. Many creatures were scattered around the tables, but a few booths remained empty and the four men quickly took a seat in the farthest one from the door.

A. The Informant approaches them and informs them of the Imperial activity

B. A bar fight breaks out and the group is pulled into it

C. Imperial Stormtroopers arrive in the bar and arrest the informant under various charges

B. A bar fight breaks out and the group is pulled into it

Seating himself against the wall Rand took in the sights of the cantina. Taking a sip of some rather bad coreillian ale he watched Yoric and Kreetos talking amongst themselves as they waited for the Informant.

As the two talked Rand could hear the sounds of an argument braking out near the bar. Trying to ignore it by listening to his companions discuss where the Informant was.

"Incoming," Rand jumped to the side as a large wookiee tossed a Clawdite into the booth. Not waiting for the clawdite to get up he leveled the shape shifter with a right hand. Turning back towards the room Rand saw that the whole bar was now taking part in the fight. Before Rand could locate his friends the Wookiee from before grabbed him by the front of his suit and tossed him towards the bar where he crashed into the liquor collection.

A. Stormtroopers break up the fight.

B. the Rebels escape out the back as Stormtroopers storm the club and run into the Informant

C. the Informant helps the rebels escape
