Spike TV has picked up the limited series event Waco which will star Michael Shannon and Taylor Kitsch. Kitsch will play David Koresh, the leader of the Branch Davidians while Shannon will play lead FBI negotiator Gary Noesner.

Spike TV was one of 6 networks seeking to buy the series but they ended up winning out in the end.

The Series will be based on the novels A Place Called Waco, by Branch Davidian David Thibodeau — who was one of the nine survivors of the April 19, 1993, fire; and Stalling for Time: My Life as an FBI Hostage Negotiator, penned by FBI special agent in charge of negotiations Noesner and will be written by John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle, John Erick will also direct the series.

Spike has become home to miniseries with Tut and the upcoming The Mist.

Production begins in the Spring of 2017

Paul Sparks (House of Cards), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire), Andrea Riseborough (Birdman) and Rory Culkin (Signs) have all signed on to appear in the six-part miniseries

Sparks will play Steve Schneider, one of Koresh’s closest confidants and supporters while Riseborough will play Judy, Schneider's wife. Things become strained when Judy reluctantly sacrifices her marriage to show her devotion to Koresh and becomes pregnant with his child.

Whigham will play the tactical commander of the FBI, known within the bureau for his bravado.

Finally, Culkin will musician David Thibodeau, who joins Koresh’s band and while initially reluctant to join Koresh he later becomes a true believer.

Supergirl is joining a Cult, Melissa Benoist has been tapped to play the legal wife of Branch Davidian leader David Koresh and matriarch of Mount Carmel, Rachel Koresh.

Joining her will be Julia Garner who has been cast to play Rachel's younger sister Michelle Jones, who was also a member of the cult and had a child with David Koresh.

John Leguizamo was also recently cast, playing ATF Agent Robert Rodreguez
