Star Wars games

Some time ago I bought a collection called SW: Best of PC which includes Republic Commando, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Empire at War, Battlefront and Knights of the Old Republic.
So far I've only tried RC (your basic scifi FPS with minor tactical shooter elements) and EaW (generic RTS with some interplanetary resource management) - because I bought number of other games too. I've earlier played Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, so I know what to expect from JKII:JO.

What's your favorite SW game ever?

Having only played old ones, I still have to say TIE Fighter, or the old arcade game (the X-Wing Death Star run). And then there's Lego Star Wars (played GBA version).

I love Knights of the Old Republic, still play it today

Looking forward to the time I can play Battlefront 3, loved what I saw from E3 this week.

Used to have X-Wing and Tie Fighter on the PC that I would play

I've been playing the Republic Commando (single player).
My general impressions on the game:

+ cool original idea that you play a clone trooper, from Geonosis to Kashyyyk
+ and have 3 buddies to command, who can also save you even if you're down
+ there's no obvious major faults in the game...
- ...but it's generic FPS with minor tactical shooter elements
- there's no such thing as AI; artificial stupidity needs shepherding
- short (for many people's taste)
- very simple, totally linear levels
- somebody thought game characters must have colorful, different personalities... even when they are
clones
!

Still, I'm bit sorry they never made planned Imperial Commando sequel.

Re: Star Wars games

Now I've finished Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

While the first Jedi Knight was just set in general Star Wars universe, JK2:JO is milking it. We get Luke, Lando, familiar droids, Bespin, Yavin and a ride on AT-ST, among other things.
Lightsaber system has been made much more complicated, but for me it was still just slashing here and there.

I'd say it's about as good as Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, a matter of taste which you prefer. First JK was better FPS, second has more puzzle/platformer stuff, lightsaber action and SW.

Next for me: Battlefront 1.

Battlefront is fun, but seems kind of limited. Practically it's just about which side kills first all opponents.
After 5 minutes it's awesome, after 5 hours it feels repetitive, after 5 days you've seen it all.
Though I imagine multiplayer would be much more interesting.

But personally this is very delightful game because I've for years had an idea for game and Battlefront is the first game I know of to be close to that format. (My idea was a hack'n'slash medieval version, but with similar concept.)

Re: Star Wars games

As much as I enjoyed the first Battlefront, I hate the second.
I don't like games that make you do things in exact order, with time limits etc.
And I've said this many times: if somebody made Chess 2 that has 74 pieces of 21 kind on 17x17 board, it wouldn't be a better game than Chess is now. Throwing in tons of new stuff doesn't make a better sequel. That goes for many things in BF2.

Lot of talk about the new Battlefront not having single player campaign, but after BF2 I'm not sorry.

Finished KotOR and I didn't exactly love it. Maybe 7/10.
Too similar to various D&D games and too (obviously) linear. Particularly I found the beginning tiresome, all the way to Dantooine and Tatooine and Manaan on top. Korriban, Kashyyyk and the end were much more enjoyable.

Seems I just don't like western RPGs, too much micromanagement.

I'd say most people playing the game for the first time may not like the game as much since it's over 10 years old, it came out in 2003, games have evolved since than.

Well that's not the case for me, with my old hardware it's among the newest games I've played...
