Re: Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi

The Title for Episode 8 has been revealed to be The Last Jedi.

As with the other titles, there is clearly a hidden meaning behind the title that fans will debate until the film comes out about if it refers to Luke Skywalker, Rey, or both as the plural for Jedi is Jedi.

Re: Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi

I'm unhappy that they didn't keep up the (vague) logic names of other trilogies had:
The Phantom Menace - A New Hope
Attack of the Clones - Empire Strikes Back
Revenge of the Sith - Return of the Jedi
I would've rather had titles fitting to those. The Force Awakens kind of still fit the pattern, but this breaks it completely.
I've explained this before, my ideas before knowing name of 7 were something along the line of Darkness Rising - Republic at War - Power of the Force.

Also using "Jedi" for second time isn't a good idea IMO.

OK, speculation of the meaning...
Yoda said: "Luke, when gone am I... the last of the Jedi will you be." Is there perhaps intention to take that literally? That there aren't (canonically) any more Jedi, ever again?
Maz Kanata said: "I've seen evil take many forms. The Sith. The Empire. Today, it is the First Order." If the Sith were just another representation of dark side, could it be that the Jedi were similar for light side? That they are about to be replaced by something new, as Knights of Ren take place of the Sith (whatever is Snoke's role in that comparison)?

The word "balance"...
I've again forgotten if there's been somewhere a satisfying explanation about the Prophecy, but comes to mind that the actual meaning of Anakin being the Chosen who restored balance to the Force was in that he destroyed both the Jedi and the Sith - to pave way for something new.

Meanwhile, perhaps the intention of Knights of Ren is/was to be in "balance", equally on light and dark side?

I'm pretty sure Luke has come to see the ways of the Jedi as being wrong, one thing we saw in the prequels and the Clone Wars was the way they became almost Dogmatic in their beliefs. So Luke may have found Balance by embracing both thus being a Gray Jedi, which is a growing concept in the canon, or Pushes Rey to start a new Lightside cult much in the way Snoke has done with Kylo Ren.

Time for some random speculation about the new trailer.

I would bet Kylo/Ben is set to kill his mother - as the trailer suggests, I'm guessing that's not a trick like some other parts - but can't do it and turns against Snoke (when he has Leia blown up anyway).

Perhaps Rey turns from Luke similarly, disappointed to him, and they do join (as the end suggests).

One thing I'm not happy about this trailer is the return of Phasma - and apparently in bigger role. I really wished they would've buried her. Of the various thing in VII that annoy me, that waste of a potentially great character was worst and adding her miracle rescue to other more reasonable ones (you can blame a lot on the Force) puts the stupidity of that film another notch up.
Speaking of which, bringing back that trooper stick weapon was another bad move.

What frightens Luke? This would seem to refer to Ben and Rey, but I have another theory: maybe the ESB cave was what "didn't scare him enough" and he and Rey are entering some similar place.

Phasma's return is addressed in the canon material making up the Journey to The Last Jedi line.

He appeared to be talking about a person when talking of encountering a raw power like Rey's the popular theories are Vader, Palpatine, and Kylo.

Not sure we'll actually see Leia's death as they had wrapped filming well before Carrie died so it's likely Leia wasn't going to be killed in the film, she was already confirmed for Episode 9, thus no death scene was filmed.

Re: Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi

I saw The Last Jedi tonight and I'm happy with it.
My opinion of TFA was and is that it's about even with II & III.
I think Rogue One was better than those.
And of TLJ I go as far to say that it competes with RotJ for being third best film.

There was an article titled "TLJ should be the last SW movie" and I quite understand the point. This would be a good spot to end it. Especially considering that we all know it won't totally end with IX; even if there won't decade or two later be Episode X(-XII), there'll be ton of books, comics and games.
But can't help that now.
