Re: The Musketeers

Ok, not that it was ever in question but it is now official...I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!

This is now two seasons in a row that have been flat out, epically good! Just solid from beginning to end. Can't remember the last time I've said that about any show...whew!

I knew they'd save Constance and stop Rochefort. Thank GOD the King finally came to his senses and Captain Treville is now back in good standing where he belongs.

How can any episode that ends with a wedding be bad? It's about time Constance and D'Artagnan were together!

And I have to say...between Constance, Queen Anne and even Milady, we've really got some badass women on this show and I love it. I'm so glad Constance got her licks in on Rochefort and I loved Anne not letting Aramis show him mercy at the end.

Poor Aramis...sigh...should've seen that end coming since it's pretty much from the book, but I knew they wouldn't leave it there. You know his three brothers will get him back into action to defend France. Monk my ass!

And I felt for Athos too...poor guy can't quite get over Milady. I'm pretty sure that despite what she said we haven't seen the last of her yet. I was surprised to see him return to be Captain, though, as he refused to in the book but it does make the most sense.

Loved the bit with Treville giving Porthos his sword too...a nice cherry on the top for their story.

And so we end where we did with Season One, with our heroes riding off into the sunset...but with a different goal this time...and France on the precipice of war. God, I can't wait for Season 3!!!

Another nail biter that's for sure, I'm glad they saved Constance early on, followed by Aramis about half way through the episode. It was a little slow to get moving which kind of added to the suspense.
The final fight was pretty good too, I legit feared that that Rochefort's handler might get shot in the fight to the King's quarters, that one guy was clearly aiming at him. Glad that both Aramis and D'Artagnan got their chance with Rochefort and that Constance got a blow in as well.

Looks like War with Spain will be part of season 3, which the Queen seemed to be all for even though her brother is the King of Spain.

I think that the Queen is still trying to prove herself to the King, which is where that comes from.

And yes, I loved that everyone, including Constance, got their licks in on Rochefort and D'Artagnan got to strike the final blow...that was appropriate!

Re: The Musketeers

From The Musketeers Facebook page:

Rupert Everett is set to follow in the footsteps of Peter Capaldi and Marc Warren by playing an antagonist.
Everett has been cast as Philippe Achille, Marquis de Feron - illegitimate brother to Louis Xiii (Ryan Gage) and the corrupt Governor of Paris.

Jamaica Inn actor Matthew McNulty will also join the show as Lucien Grimaud, a money lender and vicious criminal who goes up against the Musketeers.

The Musketeers creator Adrian Hodges will not return as showrunner for the third series, with Simon Ashford and Simon Allen serving as lead writers and Matthew Bird (Fortitude, Death in Paradise) joining as producer.

Yep...heard all that. I'm looking forward to Rupert Everett...love him!

Also, Mamie McCoy, who plays Milady DeWinter, won't be around at least for the first few episodes as she's currently expecting a baby in real life. No word yet on exactly how many episodes she'll miss.

Just watched Episode 1 of Season 3 - Spoils of War.

Talk about AWESOME! I am going to put in a lot of blank space now in case you don't want to be spoiled. All I can say is it was WELL worth the WAIT!

Review below.....

Keep scrolling......

Keep going........

Almost there.........

You're here! Spoilers be warned!

I don't know where to start. I was smiling the minute the music came on. Man they sure let you know in a hurry that War is NOT pretty. It was so good seeing Athos, Porthos and D'Artagnan still side by side fighting. I was giggling when D'Artagnan said 'Attack' and Athos answered "I hate when he does that."

And Aramis, damn he looked good even as a Monk. Didn't like him and Porthos fighting but you knew it wouldn't last too long. And when they made up it was awesome.

I'm a bit worried about Constance.. she wasn't wise to make enemies.. not with new evil in town. And speaking of the 'Governor.. eww.. just eww...

And did I mention it was so nice seeing D'Artagnan 'clean up' emoticon

Welcome back boys, it took me a bit to find you but I'm glad I did.

Re: The Musketeers

Have to agree...that was so worth the wait!! Just loved it from start to finish. The battle scenes were epic, seeing our guys fighting side by side was incredible (yes "I hate it when he does that" - great line!) and it just felt good to be back.

Yes, Aramis makes arguably the hottest monk ever, but you knew it wouldn't last. As Athos said, he is many things but a monk is not one of them. Also loved the Abbott "You tend your beard as others do a rose bush". God, I love the writing on this show!

The only thing I didn't like was Porthos and Aramis fighting, although I did understand it from Porthos' point of view...he's all about family so obviously he'd take Aramis walking away hard. But I was glad to see them get over it so quickly. Don't know which I loved more...Porthos with the little girl: "I'm not going to eat you...because I'm not hungry" or making up with Aramis "Now are you going to tell me you didn't enjoy that?" Sigh...did I mention I was loving this one?

Also plenty of set up in Paris with the new baddies (ew!) and the Royals, as well as Minister Treville and Constance. And yes, it seems Constance is attracting attention from the wrong people, which could bode badly for her.

Man...can't wait to see how the rest of this season goes! emoticon

Re: The Musketeers

Season 3 - Episode 2 - The Hunger.

What a great episode. This season is much darker and brutal so far but oddly enough our 'boys' are so much happier. I think Athos has smiled more in 2 episodes than he did in the last 2 seasons. It is very nice to see.

As for this episode I need to see it again to pick up all the little things but I will. I am officially worried about Constance now. And not just worried about her life, she seems very 'off' to me. Almost cold towards D'Artagnan. It's almost like she is annoyed he is back. That said she has made an enemy of the Red Guard Captain, as has D'Artagnan. That may not bode well for either.

And now to Aramis.. really Aramis? You let the little head out think the big head? How could you let the girl fool you like that? Speaking of her, she and Athos seem to be getting along nicely. I'm wondering if there will be more to come?

Porthos had me giggling as usual. Somehow I can't picture Porthos sneaking up on anyone. He and Aramis working over the guy that was selling the grain was classic.

Interesting twist with the King and Anne too. Doesn't look like all is well there. She seemed to hate being in the room with him and his little tease about Aramis.. So it's pretty obvious he still suspects something. I'm curious to see where that goes.

As always this was an awesome episode.

Re: The Musketeers

Well that was a little hard to follow at first with all of the intrigue, but overall it was still very good. A couple of things are very apparent about this season after just watching two episodes. First off, it's much darker...though there have still been some giggle worthy and cheer worthy moments, the overall tone is much heavier and darker and all the new baddies are just adding to that.

Secondly, we're seeing some major differences in some of the characters. Primarily Constance. I just don't get her. You've been away from your husband...who happens to be drop dead gorgeous...for four years and you act as if you don't even care that he's back? What is up with that? I mean, I know there are a lot of things going on in Paris at the moment but still...I wouldn't want to leave his side if it were me. I just don't get the attitude.

The other major change is King Louis. Apparently he still suspects Anne's infidelity with Aramis and has begun to poison her own son against her. So not the Louis we're used to. And I wonder what has caused his continued suspicions? It's not like she and Aramis have been in contact...he was gone for four years. Or maybe he just got worried when he heard Aramis was back and decided to see how she'd react to the news? Either way, I'm not liking the ugliness in him so far.

Otherwise, things are par for the course. Aramis letting his guard down around a woman (geeze, have you really gotten that rusty?) and D'Artagnan fighting for the rights of the oppressed. Was worried when he got himself arrested but I knew they'd get him out somehow. Thank goodness for Minister Treville, who totally rocked in this episode!

Once again I was having major Porthos palpitations in this one...from his fighting at the storehouse: "I've never killed a Musketeer." "You never will!" to the good cop/bad cop routine with Aramis, which was hysterical. Had me giggling out lord. And that hair! I thought it was great before but now it's practically a character of its own!

But the real revelation here was Athos. He'd already looked much more at ease and happier in the first episode and that continued here. I loved his interactions with Sylvie but never expected him to be the one to spark something with her. Good for him! Loved how he was obviously admiring her skills when they fought off the Red Guard and then the bemused expression on his face at the end when she kissed him. I don't think he knows what to make of her but he's intrigued. It's good to see him being human for once.

It'll be interesting to see if the relationship with Sylvie continues and what develops when Anne and Aramis finally see each other again. Lots of developments to come. I have a feeling I'll be biting my nails through the remaining 8 episodes!

Did I mention how much I missed this show? emoticon
