Star Wars Rebels Disney has announced the new animated series, which replaces The Clone Wars.
Set in the time between Episode 3 and Episode 4, "the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape."
Several of the people behind The Clone Wars will be involved including executive producer Dave Filoni. Other EP's are Simon Kinberg of X-Men First Class and the upcoming Star Wars films, and Greg Weisman of Young Justice.
Fans can expect the first peak in July during Star Wars Celebration Europe.
It will premiere with a one-hour Disney Channel special in fall 2014 and followed by the series on Disney XD
Re: Star Wars Rebels That sounds like a good concept.
But I wonder if there'll be connections to 7? New characters or places that might appear in both?
Re: Star Wars Rebels Not sure we'll get any kind of crossover, if they plan to use the original three the new films will be set some 30 years after Return of the Jedi, which was some 20 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith.
Re: Star Wars Rebels We can now add Ezra, a teen on the planet Lothal, he unknowingly can use the force and often uses it to get out of jams. He'll be voiced by Taylor Gray, of the Nickelodeon series Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures.
Dave Filoni also talks about the Empire with TV Guide saying, "That becomes a big question: What is imperial rule like? We've seen it in the movies with a big rebellion that ends up blowing up the Death Star, but do we just assume that when the Empire took over in Revenge of the Sith it was seen as a bad thing? I would challenge that. It wasn't this terrible thing that came in and was cruel to everyone all at once. It was slow to build its power base and spread out, and then we get to see the rebel alliance it affects, and the repercussions of that tyranny."
Re: Star Wars Rebels Ambitious, but I would've prefered "just before IV" with more Alliance and less adventuring individuals. And less jedis.
The Wing Commander movie is awful, but games are my favs (old gaming argument: WC vs X-Wing/TIE Fighter series; I always prefered WC). And the animated series was mostly good.
Re: Star Wars Rebels Kind of limits them in a way, this way they have, depending on just when it take place, up to 20 years. You don't run into the issue of the series running longer than the conflict like The Clone wars which is 5 1/2 years compared to the 3 years the war happened in the films.
I'm guessing it will be a few years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, that way the Jedi are few and far between only the ones who are hiding are still around
