1940, rock-and-roll legend John Lennon (The Beatles, The Quarrymen, Plastic Ono Band, The Dirty Mac) was born in Liverpool, England. On this date in 1975, his son, Sean, was born in New York. John Lennon was assassinated on Dec. 8, 1980, in New York City.

In 1985 - A 2½-acre garden memorial was dedicated to John Lennon by his widow Yoko Ono. The memorial in New York City’s Central Park is called Strawberry Fields.
