As far as I can tell he was the first man to record it. The PBS Favorite Daniel O'Donnell also did a version of it. That's a shame might have to go out and see if you can get a digital copy or a CD I love the way Leon Redbone does the song nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rogue9a)Fri, 23 Dec 2011 15:56:33 +0000 Re: My Favorite Christmas songshttps://broguesholonet.runboard.com/p39330,from=rss#post39330https://broguesholonet.runboard.com/p39330,from=rss#post39330Nice choices...LOVE "Christmas 1915" by Celtic Thunder, hadn't heard any other version of the song, so I assumed it had been written for them. And Pavarotti's "Ave Maria" is a classic for sure. I have his Christmas album, but in actual ALBUM form, so I haven't listened to it in quite some time as I no longer own a turntable. That was a great version of "Frosty", btw. Never really liked that song but that version could turn me around on the subject!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Catcherlady)Fri, 23 Dec 2011 13:01:27 +0000 My Favorite Christmas songshttps://broguesholonet.runboard.com/p39324,from=rss#post39324https://broguesholonet.runboard.com/p39324,from=rss#post393241. Ave Maria - Luciano Pavarotti While not technically a Christmas song per say it gets a lot of playtime this time of the year and imo it doesn’t get any better then Pavarotti’s version. 2. Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth -- Bing Crosby and David Bowie The Opening is a bit corny, but it from a 70’s Christmas special, but it’s a great song, you would never have guessed Bing would be dead soon after filming this. 3. White Christmas – Bing Crosby It doesn’t get much more classic then this one, will always be my in my top 10 4. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland 5. Frosty the Snowman – Leon Redbone & Dr. John Must be my favorite version of the song, even taking over the iconic Burl Ives version 6. Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel – Peter, Paul, and Mary Only became one of my favorite during my time in my College Choir and this version is my Favorite rendition of the song. 7. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – Burl Ives No list could be complete with out the great Burl Ives or Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and it just so happens his version of the song is my favorite. 8. Merry Christmas, Darling – The Carpenters Karen Carpenter had one of the most beautiful voices I’ve heard and this is one of my favorite songs. 9. I’ll be Home for Christmas – Josh Groban I’ve always loved this song and Groban uses messages from service men and woman to help make the song even more meaningful. 10. When A Child Is Born – Charlotte Church I’ve been a fan of Charlotte dating back to her beginning in 1998 and love her Christmas album so I have to put her in here. Now for some Honorable Mentions Footprints – Barenaked Ladies One of mu favorite modern Holiday Albums is by The Barenaked Ladies and off that album this is one of my favorite songs. Abigail’s Song – Katharine Jenkins A Brand new song really, it was on Doctor Who’s Christmas Special last year and really has a nice Christmas feel to it. Santa Claus is Coming To Town – Bruce Springsteen Bruce Springsteen does the best version of the song I’ve ever heard Christmas 1915 – Celtic Thunder One of my favorite songs, this version is by Celtic Thunder who does a wonderful job with the song. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rogue9a)Fri, 23 Dec 2011 01:41:54 +0000
