Re: Highlander remake news

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is out as director, the reason being he and the studio having different visions on the film.

Ryan Reynolds is still attached to star

Re: Highlander remake news

Some updates finally

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan has been tapped as the Director, it will mark his debut. They're sticking to the script written by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway that sticks closely to the original 1986 film.

Neal H. Moritz is producing along with original film and series producer Peter Davis, and former director Justin Lin who stayed on as an EP.

This should be good news for fans of the series as Nicolas-Troyan is a big fan of the series and spoke at length about it after the announcement he was picked to direct.

Ryan Reynolds dropped out since my last post, a bit under the radar, so casting is ongoing.

Back in the news, Producers are looking at Tom Cruise for the role of Juan Ramirez, the mentor for Connor MacLeod. If he ends up taking it, they will expand Ramirez's role to accommodate his star power.

Re: Highlander remake news

The Worlds of Wrestling and Highlander have been linked since the start with "The Fabulous Freebirds", Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts taking on the team of Greg Gagne (son of AWA owner Verne Gagne), Jumping Jim Brunzell (of the WWF tag team The Killer Bees), and the Tonga Kid (aka Tama of the WWF tag team The Islanders) in the first film, Rowdy Roddy Piper appearing in the series and Edge appearing in Highlander: Endgame.

Now Dave Bautista joins them as he's set to play The Kurgan, originally played by Clancy Brown in the original film, the films villain.

Can't say I'm happy where this is going - not that I ever am with remakes.
I'd preferred them to leave The Kurgan out.

I would like a continuation of the universe but the films really screwed things up with Highlander The Source. So I just hope the reboot does a good job of relaunching the franchise.

As for The Kurgan while I would love it if he wasn't brought back, you can't beat the over the top badass that was Clancy Brown in that role I do like who they cast if they want to bring him back. Dave Bautista is a pretty good actor and can bring something different to the role

Re: Highlander remake news

Colony writer Ryan Condal has delivered a script to Lionsgate for the Highlander Reboot and preproduction will begin later this year.

John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski is still attached to direct the film with Neal H. Moritz serving as the producer.

Lionsgate is said to be very happy with the script and have set production to begin in October, after Stahelski finishes work on the third John Wick film, the studio is looking at a 2019 release date.

There have been no casting updates, though Dave Bautista and Tom Cruise had been attached to star as The Kurgan and Rameriz in past reports. No word on if they are still attached.

Henry Cavill is apparently being eyed for the lead role, it's not known if the lead is still Connor MacLeod or a new character, with Kerry Williamson now writing the script.

A Bit of an update, Cavill has revealed that he has been cast for Highlander. In an Instagram post, he not only talks about his love of the film but the TV Series as well.
