Scandal - Season 7

As Scandal heads into its final season, series creator Shonda Rhimes says its characters will have to ask themselves some difficult questions: “Who do you want to be? What is your legacy?” For Fitz, much of that thinking will be done “out of the spotlight” in Vermont, where a story unfolds that is “surprising and a little bit charming.” As for the former POTUS’ future with Olivia, Rhimes reminds us that theirs is a “complex story. … We are on a journey, and it’s coming to an end.” Over at 1600 Penn, President Mellie Grant and Vice President Cyrus Beene will suddenly find that “they are on equal ground, standing on the same side [like] we never imagined before.” (For what it’s worth, Rhimes says the Trump presidency won’t affect the writing of the final season, as it did last year: “The best way we can deal with it is to not allow it to influence us at all.”) And if you’re worried that pregnancy will soften Quinn Perkins, fear not! “Quinn is going to be the same Quinn we’ve always known,” Rhimes promises. “Women don’t become a whole other person because they are having a baby.”

RETURN DATE: Thursday, Oct. 5 at 9/8c (ABC)
